Mid-July hits me in an unexpected way. We’ve hit the muggy, restless summer. The air filled simultaneously with mosquitoes and fireflies, dancing in the night.
We’ve finished summer school, swim lessons, and our summer trip to Kentucky.
In Wisconsin, in the north, we cherish our warm summers after long, frigid winters.
It’s glorious to feel the sunshine, hot on our faces, laying on the beach, and listening to our kids scream in delight.
These are the days we northerners live for.
Except, with the craziness of summer, I desire the calm and organization of fall.
Not that I’m anxious for snow and cold, but instead the quiet and cozy that comes from snuggling under warm blankets. For the togetherness of gathering around a pot of chili.
For the organization of school schedules and all that comes from it.
It drives home my belief that we do best when we have organization and schedules.
Schedules are so much easier in the fall for most of us. It’s a beautiful thing to have those anchor points of activities that keeps us grounded and focused.
Knowing this, how do we enjoy what’s left of summer?
Decide to enjoy it and do what brings life to you and your family.
For us, that means:
– Not allowing the teen to stay up all hours of the night.
– Using the public library’s summer program.
-Spending all the time possible outside, and adventuring when possible.
– Keeping meal times consistent.
– Not trying to squeeze too much into our schedule.
– Make time to rest.
– Plan for fall.
